Secret Exposure

The Secret Exposure option, available in the More menu on a secret page, displays which fields on that secret are configured as Expose for Display in the secret template. Fields set to Expose for Display are not encrypted in the database and can appear as custom columns on the Secret Server dashboard.

To view the exposure status of a secret's fields:

  1. Navigate to a secret and open it.

  2. Click the More button in the secret action bar, and select Secret exposure from the drop down.

The Secret Exposure panel lists each field on the secret with the following information:

  • Field Name: The name of the field as defined in the secret template.

  • Field Type: The field type (for example, Text, Notes, or URL).

  • Exposed: Whether Expose for Display is enabled on this field. Exposed fields are not encrypted in the database.

The Expose for Display setting is configured at the secret template level by an administrator. Only fields where the secret text-entry field data is not considered privileged information should be set to Expose for Display. Password fields cannot be set to Expose for Display. See Secret Template Fields.

Exposed field values may be visible as dashboard columns to any user with access to the Secrets list, even without opening the individual secret.
