Managing Folder Permissions

Folder and secret permissions define how users and groups access, organize, and manage content in Credential Manager. Setting permissions helps you control visibility, maintain security, and delegate responsibilities effectively.

Viewing Secret Permissions

Viewing secret permissions shows whether a secret inherits its permissions from its parent folder or has custom permissions.

To view secret permissions:

  1. Open the secret.

  2. Select the Permissions tab.

The Permissions view shows Inheriting from folder or lists the custom permission assignments.

Modifying Folder Permissions

When you modify a folder's permissions, all secrets that inherit from it automatically receive the updated permissions. Subfolders and any secrets with custom permissions remain unchanged.

To modify folder permissions:

  1. Navigate to the folder view.

  2. Select the folder whose permissions you want to change.

  3. Select Sharing.

  4. Click Edit.

    Full-page view appears.

Assign permission levels to each user or group by using the dropdown menu for the user or group names.

  5. Choose one of the following permission levels for the folder:

    • Owner: Allows the user to have full control over the folder, including sharing it.

    • Edit: Allows the user to edit the folder.

    • View: Allows the user to view details without making changes.

    • Add Secret: Allows the user to add secrets to the folder.

  6. Choose one of the following permission levels for the secrets within the folder:

    • Owner: Allows the user to have full control over the secret, including sharing it.

    • Edit: Allows the user to edit the secret.

    • View: Allows the user to view details without making changes.

    • List: Allows the user to see the secret in a list.

    • None: User has no permission to access the secrets in this folder.

  7. Add or update users and groups for the folder.

  8. Click Save.
